In the spirit of maintaining a positive outlook on life and experiencing new things, I have decided to try my hand at golf. I know absolutely NOTHING about the sport except that you have to walk a lot! ;P I talked to a few co-workers about it and learned that the very first thing I need is my own set of clubs...because renting gets very expensive. Also, apparently you won't improve your game if you are constantly using a different set each time.
So I have been browsing through Craig's List and found a couple of sweet deals on full se
ts of women's used clubs, complete with bag. I didn't realize that you needed soooo many! Why do you need 7 irons, a putter, driver, wedgie, etc? They only give you one club at Golfland and I almost always manage to beat everyone!! Heh. I'm planning on checking out those sets while I'm on vacation, after I have moved all my stuff into my new pad and get my cable set up.
One of my co-workers offered to give me a free lesson once I get my clubs...he's apparently a golf fanatic. Hope he doesn't get too frustrated with me...I couldn't stop giggling when we were talking about the types of clubs and he told me "don't get wood...you can get wood after you are more experienced." Hey, I am my father's daughter!! HAHA
All in all, I'm pretty excited to start. I'm told I should practice at the driving range first, so that I don't feel pressured at the course, when experienced people are impatiently waiting fo
r me to hit the ball and all I can do is make divots in the grass! My co-worker told me that the driving range is where most beginners practice, even little kids are out there! I'm a little nervous about having to learn near children. I can't be one-upped by a toddler! Besides, I am pretty reckless with my aim.
On my last trip to Vegas, I was the only female at the craps table and all the men decided I might be their lucky charm. So they had me throw the dice...which was fun, except when I aimed too high and hit a man in the face with the dice at the end of the table! Luckily, he was wearing glasses and everyone laughed it off....True story!

At the driving range, you are in your own little slot. The only thing between you and the guy beside you is this little 18 inch high wall so you don't hit him in the ankles with your swing or the ball. Don't ask me how many balls I bounced off that little wall.I was actually able to hit people that were practicing 8 to 10 stalls away. The manager made me move to the last slot at the request of the EMT's working on the 3rd person I hit.I was never able to hit my drives straight. They were always off to the right.....what they call "shanks". I tried everything to counteract it......even standing facing the fairway so when I hit the ball it would go to the right and land on the fairway. Naturally, it went straight. It scattered the foursome putting on the nearby green. They were quite upset. I just pretended it wasn't me.I used to buy the cheapest golf balls I could get because I knew I was only going to hit them one time. Little kids would find them and sell them back to me.I wasn't much better with irons. I did manage to do okay with the 9 iron. Once I got to the green, I could putt fairly well. The best score I ever shot was 115 but I cheated. Love Dad
ReplyDeleteLOL...Dad, when I come and visit you and mom, we should go to the driving range! Although, between the two of us, we may get arrested for assault....
