I have a management job in the retail industry. For anyone who works in retail, you know how hard it is to keep that smile on your face sometimes. People can be pretty brutal. Times are hard, we all need jobs...but some of the things that we go through are emotionally exhausting.
It's hard to please everyone and when you have to face an upset cu
stomer who thinks that the only way they'll obtain any sense of satisfaction is to get someone fired, well, it's hard to try to be the voice of reason. Being a manager, you want to protect your staff as well as keep your customers happy. They are the "bread and butter" so to speak. But when you get that one customer who is loud and obnoxious, has the mouth of a sailor, and seems to thrive on causing a scene, it can try any girl's patience. Those are the types that can turn anyone's day sour.

Then there are the other 95% of customers who are angels in disguise. The ones that will step in and defend the poor hapless clerks who stand there, miserable and close to tears. The ones who come in every day, know all of our names, and stay to chat for awhile. The ones who bring in little treats for the staff and show up to support events that we organize.
Ahh, retail...is there anything better? ;)
